SHOPPING AT THE SPECIALTY

May 2 - 8, 2000

Part 1

One of the highlights for most of the people who attend the National

Specialty each year is shopping for those wonderful Berner items. When

I first got a berner I had no idea that there were Berner things to buy,

and when I did see something, I was really excited. I had no idea how

many Berner things there were until I went to the Specialty for the

first time last year. Wow!!! I was in Berner Heaven....and it was the

same this year!! There were Berner things everywhere I looked, and each

one was better than the one before. Now, if I can

just figure out how to stretch my money so I can really buy one of

everything, I'll be happy!

For those of you who couldn't attend the Specialty to shop til you

dropped, I'll be featuring a different vendor each day of the week until

I have highlighted each vendor who was in Wisconsin. Now, you can shop

on-line, or via telephone, with the same vendors we bought Berner Stuff

from while we were in Wisconsin. I will be featuring both the regular

vendors as well as the clubs who had booths.

Let the shopping begin.....

This booth had a lot of really great berner things. I love their "I'm

No Saint...I'm a Berner" t-shirts and sweat shirts. I have one of the

sweatshirts and always get a lot of comments about it. They have other

lovely Berners embroidered on shirts, fleece items, denim shirts and

jackets. They have Dabrak prints and cards, too. I wish I had bought a

box of the Berner business size cards to bring home. They would make

great gift tags or you could print your name, address and phone number

on them to make Berner Business cards.

Their wooden Berner kid chairs are super, and they donated one of the

chairs for next year's Berner-Garde Raffle.

I hope you've been saving your pennies (and dollars,) because you're

going to need them over the next few weeks, as each day, I feature a

different vendor who sold all of the wonderful Berner Stuff at the

National Specialty. When you contact the vendors, be sure to let them

know that you got their name from the Berner-l Shopper. We want them to

know the "power" of the Berner-l.

This booth was across the hall from where Pat Long and I were taking

portraits of Berners all week. We had plenty of opportunities to check

out their things and both of us bought items from them. I just love

their "Berner Fan Club" line of items. It features two berners sitting

in front of a fan with their ears flapping in the breeze. You can get

t-shirts, sweatshirts, license plates, mouse pads, coffee cups and other

things with this terrific theme.

They have beautiful stock and custom made picture frames. They have the

best array of Berner rubber stamps I have ever seen and gorgeous wood

bookmarks and key chains featuring Berners. You'll love their

incredible laser process both on wood and on the paperweights, all with

a Berner theme, of course. They also have Welcome Plaques, wood painted

custom pedigrees and lots of other assorted Berner things.

SHOPPING AT THE SPECIALTY

May 2 - 8, 2000

Part 3

Have you ever watched shoppers in a store? Have you noticed that

"glazed" look in their eyes and how they look like they don't have an

ounce of energy left? Well, this is NOT the way the shoppers at the

Specialty looked. They looked more like kids on Christmas morning.

They had discovered that Santa had left his entire bag of goodies for

them and were so thrillled and happy with each Berner item that they

discovered. Their eyes sparkled and there was excitement in their

voices.

It's not quite the same to shop from your home and not see the actual

items, but it's the next best thing. Where else can you find Berner

items galore? You are all in for some treats as I present the shopping

reports. Enjoy spending your money on these Berner things ....and bask

in the excitement of receiving your treasures in the mail. Now, for

today's featured vendor.......

These are the most complete and nicest canine first aid kits I have ever

seen. There is over $100 worth of first aid supplies in this great

container. They are quality kits, not like the usual ones you see. They

donated one of their day pack style first aid kits for next years

Berner-Garde Raffle. This is something we should all have for our

Berners and other furry friends. They also carry specialty dog

biscuits, Flint River Ranch Dog Food, Wenaha Dog Backpacks, Rescue

Remedy and other items. There were a lot of Berners wearing backpacks

as the Specialty continued; each day I saw more sporting their packs and

smiling. Remember Murphy's Law.....If you have a canine first aid kit,

you won't need it!! I guess it's like having insurance. Check out

It's interesting to see people and their dogs together. Have you ever

noticed that many times they look very much alike and how some of their

personalities mesh so nicely together? It's always such a 'joy(e)' to

meet Berners and their people. Helping Pat Long do the Berner

portraits, we got to spend time with people and their Berners on a one

to one basis (well, sometimes it was a two to five or so basis.) I'm

not sure who picks whom, but the people who own Berners

certainly do have Berner personalities. They are accepting of others,

gentle, friendly, caring and all of those other descriptive words and

phrases that we love in our Berners. It's no wonder that we all want to

buy all the Berner things we see. We are so BERNERLY!!! The vendor

I'm featuring today has so many lovely

things to feed your "Berner" habit......

There were hand painted Berners on everything: boxes, flower cans,

baskets, serving trays, tables and notebooks, to just name a few. I

bought one of the notebooks in which a tablet fits inside. It was

gorgeous and I just HAD to buy it. They also had three ring binders.

The original and print pictures of Berners were very nice. I just

loved their Berner Buddies t-shirt with the saying, "Warm and Snuggly -

Cute and Cuddly." I saw so many people wearing them during the

Specialty. I have one of these shirts for the Berner-Garde Raffle next

year, along with two very nice prints - one with two puppies

and the other with a Berner in a down stay. You're gonna' love shopping

It's always fun to see the shirts people wear at the Specialty. The

first day or so there is a great variety of shirts, some I've never seen

before. As the time passes, there are more and more of the same shirts

appearing and you can certainly pick out the most popular ones. I like

Pat Long's idea of not packing many shirts, because I always bring

plenty with me, then end up buying a lot more. It doesn't make sense to

drag along shirts from home, when I usually bring them back not having

been touched. Now, on with the SHOPPING~!!!

has antiques and critter collectibles - anything Berner! She has shirts,

stationery, pottery, coasters, pins, key rings, toys, treats, collars

and leads. I bought a great jean jacket with an embroidered berner on

the front, as well as on the back. Now, I have a place to put all of

those wonderful pins I've been collecting. She also has very nice

quality, Berner embroidered shorts, vests, shirts,

jumpers and all sorts of other things. She has by-the-breed gifts,

including custom artistry, plus flags. I really enjoyed shopping at

Debbie did therapeutic massage for Berners and people at the specialty

both this year in Wisconsin and last year in Tucson. Pat Long and I

were doing the Berner Portraits just down the hall from Debbie this year

and we got to see the people lying on her table totally relaxed after

their massages. It was really fun to watch the Berners. They really

enjoyed getting their massage and when you

walked by you could see that they were totally relaxed, just like the

people who had massages. After Debbie was done, the owners ran the

Berners up and down the hallway so she could see how they moved. It

does make a difference.

Debbie has donated a gift certificate for a person or canine massage to

be used during the 2001 Specialty. Think you can wait that

Long?......Ahhhhhh!!

Berners are such gorgeous creatures that they really don't need to have

those lovely Swiss collars. I just couldn't wait any longer....I had to

buy one for Winston.

The collars at this booth are absolutely gorgeous. Edelweiss lace,

imported from Switzerland, is sewn on leather or nylon collars and it

makes an absolutely beautiful collar. I bought Winston a red leather

Swiss collar with brass cows. I love the red on the black fur, although

the black or tan collars were pretty, too. Next year, I'm going to

splurge and buy a red leash with brass cows, to go with his collar.

They also make matching belts for the owners. Alpine Pet has sleighbell

collars with authentic harness bells which are used on draft horse

riggings. These make a wonderful holiday collar for your Berner. We

will have a sleighbell collar in next year's Berner-Garde

Raffle donated by Alpine Pets. I also bought a lovely Swiss bell. I

just couldn't resist it. It has a very melodic ring and is nicely

decorated, too. They came in many sizes. They also carried many sizes

of stuffed Berners. As Debbie started setting up her booth, people

started buying things as fast as she was unpacking the boxes. What a fun

place to shop!!

The logo says, "Great Images...Neat Stuff" and it's absolutely true.

One of the reasons is that they place your images on their stuff! That's

right....you send in photos of your beloved Berner and you get back stuff with your

own Berner on it! WOW!!!

You can also get things with the art work of Cami Kriner. Cami is an

incredibly talented young artist who loves Berners, especially her own

Berner, Bob. I just had to have one of her images on a shirt. It's gorgeous!!

They carry mugs, mousepads, puzzles, framed tiles, boxes, can cozies,

sterling silver pendants and more. Their new Soft L'ink shirts are

wonderful...so soft with the dyed image in the shirt, so it stays soft. Right now you can

get them in t-shirts, but soon they will also have children's t-shirts, gold

shirts and sweatshirts. They have terrific Berner-l totes, t-shirts and sweats,

and each purchase benefits Berners through donations by the Becktels.

They carry a full range of Bach Flower remedies and Willard Water (both

clear and xxx with lignite.) Their Nok Out is a safe odor elimnator, which is

great when your Berner meets up with a skunk and loses the battle. You need

to check out their web site to see all of the wonderful items they have. They

will be donating some of their new items to next year's Berner-Garde Raffle.

SHOPPING AT THE SPECIALTY

May 2 - 8, 2000

Part 17

I'm sending this report from Burlington, VT. What a gorgeous area of

our country and what fun to be able to spend time with my granddaughter and

her parents!!! ;-D

The vendor today was one of the clubs.....

****************************

Kentuckiana Bernese Mountain Dog Club

E-Mail: devgeneh@aol.com

Web Site: www.bernese1.com

This group had many nice Berner items. I bought two Berner bibs for

Ella and we are testing them out this weekend. They also had pot holders,

refrigerator magnets, frisbees, Berner clocks and of course, Berner t-shirts. They

had closed their booth when I came back around to get the gift item for the

raffle from this club, so if they want to contribute to next year's

Berner-Garde Raffle, please contact me. Thanks!!!

These shirts are really great. They have Berner puppies with their

heads in potato chip bags and it says, "Berners - Betcha can't have just one!"

The t-shirts come in white in sizes M through XXXL and in ash for

Sweatshirts in sizes L through XXL.

I bought one of these t-shirts last year when they announced them on the

list and I always get comments on what a clever shirt it is.

I knew there were a lot of vendors at this year's Specialty, as

evidenced by the fact that I'm writing the 19th installment of the shopping series.

I still have three or four more reports to write, too. When I've completed all

of the reports, I'll do a final report listing all of the vendors, with their

contact information so it's all together on one post. Now, on with the

shopping......

This vendor had a lot of Berner items. They have t-shirts, sweat

shirts, Polo shirts, Barn Jackets, cotton Henleys, Polartec breed shirts and Shirpa

Fleece.

Their gift items include: pins, rubber stamps, stationery, mugs with

full color portraits and breed legend, breed statues, picture frames and beautiful

Berner jewelry. They have a very nice catalogue available. Linda is going to

send me some items for our Berner-Garde raffle next year, and I'm sure it will

draw a lot of tickets. I bought several items from Tailwaggers at the

Specialty.

I forgot to wear my earrings one day, so I just had to go to their booth

to buy new ones!!!! ;-D

She had both watercolors and prints. Of course I had to buy one. Janet also

had foil imprinted Berner napkins, which were used at one of the banquets at the

Specialty. She donated some of the luncheon Berner napkins to the
