So hard to write, as somehow, by writing it down it becomes real.
Tyra left us on 28 August 2018, less than two weeks before her 16th birthday. She had valiantly fought bone cancer for the last two months of her life. Her spirit and determination showed through the whole time, until one day, it became too much, and the spark left her eyes.
She has ruled the roost at home ever since she arrived that evening in November. She flew into Montreal. We picked her up, and drove 3 hours back home in a snowstorm with her ranting crossly in the crate in the back of the car. When she got older she ranted a lot too. Usually on an agility course. I never really noticed that she did it until I saw the photos afterwards. I have a huge collection of her rants 🙂
We did so much together, and she brought me so many friends. She achieved many titles. Conformation champion, Agility Champion, She also earned titles in Disc, Herding, Obedience and Rally. We travelled far and wide – to Moncton, NB in the East and Calgary, AB in the West and to many places in the US.
Having never been to a dog show in my life, I decided we should take conformation classes and amazingly in our very fist show, she took Best Puppy in group and went on to the best Puppy in Show ring! She took this award two times more in her show career and easily achieved her conformation Championship.
We moved on to Agility and competed for over 9 years together. She earned her CKC agility championship twice. Once as a Regular dog, and again as a Veteran. She earned her AAC Championship and then went on to earn her Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2012, she won her category at the AAC Regional Championships.
She was an inveterate toy thief. No bags were safe. If there was a toy there, she’d find it. She didn’t de-stuff them, just squeaked them to death! The sheepie toy she was given as a gift a long time ago in her Rally class, after coveting it the whole session, now sits on top of the cupboard as a reminder of her.
But THIS is how she will always be remembered. In the agility ring.
